Rebecca and Ben Self live in an old house in the Aylesford neighborhood. They met as students at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. A former teacher who also has a degree from MIT, Rebecca is the education director for Seedleaf, a local non-profit that develops sustainable food sources for people at risk of hunger. Ben founded Blue State Digital, an internet strategy and technology firm, and is co-founder of Sixth Street Brewery located on Sixth and Jefferson.

Anthany Beatty, was chief of police in Lexington from 2001 – 2007, before becoming assistant vice president for public safety at the University of Kentucky, overseeing the UK Police Department, Parking and Transportation, Environmental Health and Safety and Emergency. A Lexington native, he received his bachelor’s degree from EKU and a master’s degree from Kentucky State University. Dr. Eunice Beatty is a retired professor, having been on the faculty of UK, Lexington Community College, and Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is Kentucky’s 76th Secretary of State and only current female Constitutional Officer.
In 2011, Secretary Grimes left her successful law practice to dedicate herself full time to serving the citizens of Kentucky. She visited every area of the Commonwealth, speaking with citizens in every facet of our state, and listening to their ideas to improve our great Commonwealth. Secretary Grimes is a native of Maysville, Kentucky. She received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where she served as a trustee to the Board of Directors. Secretary Grimes obtained her law degree, graduating with honors, from American University, Washington College of Law, in Washington, D.C. Secretary Grimes currently lives with her husband, Andrew in downtown Lexington.
