Scholarship Information

Undergraduate Scholarships
Each year Women Leading Kentucky identifies 8-10 undergraduate students in Kentucky colleges/universities for a one-time scholarship award of $1,000-$1,500 based upon their leadership abilities. These awards are presented in the spring at a reception for the selected students and their family members along with the Women Leading Kentucky Board of Directors, sponsors and scholarship contributors.

Criteria for selection of undergraduate students:
- Freshman, Sophomore or Junior enrolled FT in Kentucky college/university;·
- GPA of 3.0 or better;
- Complete online application from WLK website (once submitted from WLK website there is no need to email as well)
- Copy of transcript required; does not have to be official transcript.
- 300-word essay that addresses the applicant’s leadership on campus and in her community, as well as her goals for the future.

Deadline is February 1, 2013. Please do NOT submit applications after this date.

Graduating High School Senior Scholarship
A special Carrie S. Shumate Legacy Scholarship of $1000, established in 2007 to recognize Mrs. Shumate’s contributions to Kentucky, is awarded to a graduating high school senior in KY who has applied to an in-state or out-of-state college or university.

Criteria for selection:
– GPA of 3.0 or better;
- Complete online application from WLK website (once submitted from WLK website there is no need to email as well)
- Copy of transcript required; does not have to be official transcript.
- 300-word essay that addresses the applicant’s leadership on campus and in her community, as well as her goals for the future.

Deadline is February 1, 2013. Please do NOT submit applications after this date.

Scholarship winners will be required to attend reception in May to receive award. Exact date TBA.
